Shrimp aquaculture startup spearheads Bosch’s new Singapore innovation initiative

Bosch has opened a new hub for developing startups, in fields including aquaculture, in Singapore this week. The startup combines sensors, software and services – based on data analysis capabilities using artificial intelligence (AI) to transform aquaculture from art to science. It aims to help the region’s shrimp farmers increase yield, predictability and implement sustainable aquaculture practices, while reducing risks and costs. Trio to launch new aquaculture app in Singapore

An aquaculture app that is designed to help fish and shrimp farmers in Singapore and beyond is due to be launched next month. The initial model will enable shrimp and fish farmers to use real-time data analytics technology to track critical parameters such as water quality, feed management and animal health. The app will initially be trialed at Blue Aqua’s four farms in Singapore. Link: https://thefishsite.com/articles/trio-to-launch-new-aquaculture-app-in-singapore […]

7 tips to improve pond bottom quality in shrimp farms

Shrimp ponds accumulate a lot of organic matter during production from the uneaten feed, fertilizer, faeces, carcasses, and dead phytoplankton. All of this settles on the pond bottom in the form of sediment or sludge. These accumulated sludge and sediment can cause a lot of problems if left unmanaged – here’s how producers can handle it effectively. 6th Tip: We also have AQUA-Cal+ water conditioner to help with the pond sludge management in shrimp farming. Reducing egg loss in shrimp hatcheries

“Eggs from infected shrimp brood stock have been shown to produce healthy post-larvae if properly disinfected, prompting a major hatchery to change its protocols and a huge spike in juvenile survival rates.” Back in 2018, at the SEAFDEC/AQD Tiger Shrimp Spawner/Broodstock Facility in Iloilo, Philippines, eggs from shrimp brood stock that were shown to contain pathogens would be promptly chlorinated and disposed of to maintain biosecurity. The hatchery uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests on the broodstock, in order to weed out any infected with white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), monodon baculovirus (MBV), infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV), yellow head […]

First Official Record of Ovaprim® Spawning Hormone Application on Sharks

Ovaprim are no longer only a breeding hormone for Aquaculture use, but also contributed in the efforts of sharks conservation! “Since there is no official record of Ovaprim® application to elasmobranchs yet, it is not known whether Ovaprim® will work on sharks. To confirm whether it works, experiments using two shark species: the banded houndshark (Triakis scyllium) and the whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus) were performed.” Link: https://doi.org/10.3389/fmars.2020.571741 #shark #species #exsituconservation #research #korea #ovaprim […]

Haruan Breeding using Ovaprim

On the 20th August 2020, 3 Little Fish Sdn Bhd did a Haruan or Snakehead Fish (Channa striatus) Breeding in Semenyih using Ovaprim. The purpose of this trip was to show farmers how to use Ovaprim to breed Haruan Fish. Fish were obtained from the culture ponds and weights were between 1.0-2.5kg. Before injection, each fish was anesthetized with Tricaine-S and checked to make sure they were healthy and in good condition. Once they were checked, their sex were determined by checking the genital papillae and weighed. Fish were then placed on a table lined with a towel to gently […]
