Tricaine-S is used for anesthesia or sedation of fish for tagging, weight sampling, spawning, transportation, and surgery. The active ingredient is tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222). It is regarded as the most trusted fish anesthetic for aquatic animals around the world.

Dosage & Application:
- Anesthesia: 100-250 ppm for warm water fishes.
- Sedation: 10-30ppm.
- Dose may vary among species
- Immerse fish until desired depth of sedation or anesthesia is reached. The maximum exposure time is 30 minutes.
- Dissolve measured amount of Tricaine-S in sufficient volume of water to provide the final desired concentration.
- Immerse fish in clean water until recovery is complete.
General Instructions:
Maintain adequate oxygenation and acidity of solutions throughout the anesthesia and recovery. For periods of long anesthesia, neutralize the pH of the Tricaine-S solution (acidic) to the pH of the holding tank with sodium bicarbonate.
Caution:
- Use plastic or glass containers for Tricaine-S solutions.
- Use at water temperatures of 10°C or greater.
- Treated fish must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 5 days after the latest treatment with Tricaine-S at water temperatures of 10°C or greater.
Clove oil is a natural and inexpensive product that is good as an alternative for fish anesthesia and sedation. Clove has an antibiotic, antiseptic, antimitotic and antibacterial effect. The use of clove oil as an anesthesia to immobilize fish will decrease the stress, allowing easy handling and maintaining the health of the fish.
Clove oil is also used to keep fish sedated during transportation as it keeps the fish calm and reduces risk of injury to the fish’s body. It is generally regarded as safe for the user and for the fish.
However, it is light sensitive and the recovery period after the anesthesia may be long. Sensitivity to clove oil may also vary between species, so it is advisable to test it before using it in larger extent.

Dosage & Application:
30-50mg/L water for fish anesthesia. If the fish remains lively after a couple of minutes of exposure to the recommended dosage, add 10 mg/L at intervals of 2 minutes until the fish is calm in the water.
AQUI-S® is registered with a zero withdrawal period and can be used for all fish husbandry and transport applications, including rested harvesting of fish.
Administering AQUI-S® to fish before and during handling helps decrease the fish’s physical activity, lower their metabolic rate, and alleviate stress by minimizing the release of stress hormones. As a result, fish exhibit better overall condition and increased survival rates post-handling. Employing AQUI-S® for tranquilized harvesting enhances product quality and ensures greater consistency in the final product.

Dosage:
Most fish management practices require an AQUI-S® concentration of between 15 and 20 ppm in an immersion bath to achieve suitable anaesthetisation levels. For most live fish transportation situations an AQUI-S® concentration between 1 and 5 ppm is suitable.
